Acting workshop in English
A contemporary approach to Carlo Goldoni’s characters
Goldoni’s characters between tradition and modernity
20% OFF IF APPLYING BY 20TH DECEMBER.
Quick overview
The workshop aims to discover Goldoni, the Italian playwright, whose innovations in the 1700s revolutionised Italian theatre, ferrying it from the conventional Commedia dell’Arte style into the modern psychological theatre that we still know today.
A contemporary, innovative approach aimed at discovering the extraordinary depth of his writing, beyond the movements, mannerism and behaviour of the genre, as well as the magic of 18th-century Italy. A fun and exciting journey into Goldoni’s theatre and Italian taste.

Description
Using a selection of scenes from Goldoni’s Gli'Innamorati (The lovers) and Trilogia della villeggiatura (The country holiday), two masterpieces of traditional Italian theatre, students will be guided through an exploration of Carlo Goldoni's characters, language and poetry, analysing and practising behaviours and psychologies without forgetting the basic elements of Commedia dell'Arte.
The workshop will give participants the opportunity to work in a safe environment, free from judgement and criticism, and will benefit from a surprising advantage in online teaching mode.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have studied and mastered a scene from one of the two comedies, achieving deep, specialised knowledge of Goldoni’s and Italian theatre.
Course programme
Each online session will be divided into an introductory voice and body warm-up, followed by scene study and character building.
We will work from the inside out, to find the student's unique personal connection to the timeless roles and practising the fun of the archetypes of Italian theatre. Goldoni's words will be the foundation of the acting choices: using a contemporary English translation, we will analyse and compare the specifics of the original language to build the structure that will set the student's imagination free.
The workshop will give participants the opportunity to work from their own safe environment, free to express themselves and follow their own, personalised approach to the work. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have studied and mastered a scene from one of the two comedies, achieving deep, specialised knowledge of Goldoni’s and Italian theatre.
