Florian Borchmeyer

Florian Borchmeyer è Nato nel 1974 a Wasserburg am Inn.
E' curatore di festival cinematografici e teatrali, drammaturgo, regista e studioso di letteratura.
Ha studiato letterature romanze a Berlino, L'Avana e Parigi. Nel 2006 ha conseguito il dottorato in filosofia con una tesi sulle cronache del Nuovo Mondo nel XVI secolo. Dal 2001 ha lavorato come critico letterario per la Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung e giornalista culturale per i canali televisivi pubblici tedeschi (ARD, ZDF, 3Sat, ARTE).

Nel 2006 ha presentato in anteprima il documentario "Habana - Arte nuevo de hacer ruinas" al Festival di Locarno e ad altri festival internazionali, ricevendo diversi premi (Bavarian Film Award, Miglior documentario al DOCSDF Mexico, tra gli altri).

Tra il 2011 e il 2019 è stato responsabile della drammaturgia del teatro Schaubühne di Berlino e ora cura il Festival International New Drama (FIND) dello Schaubühne, la piattaforma più importante per il teatro contemporaneo internazionale nella capitale tedesca.
Dal 2007 è curatore del programma internazionale del Filmest di Monaco, con particolare attenzione ai film dell'America Latina.

Born in 1974 in Wasserburg am Inn. Film and theatre festival curator, dramaturge, filmmaker and literature scholar. Studied Romance literatures in Berlin, Havanna and Paris. In 2006 conferral of a doctorate in philosophy with the graduate thesis about the chronicles of the New World in the 16th century. Since 2001 he worked as literature critic for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and cultural journalist for the public German TV channels (ARD, ZDF, 3Sat, ARTE).

2006 he premiered his feature documentary »Habana - Arte nuevo de hacer ruinas« at the Locarno Film Festival and other international festivals, receiving several awards (Bavarian Film Award, Best Documentary at DOCSDF Mexico, among others). Between 2011 and 2019 he was Head of Dramaturgy at the Schaubühne theatre in Berlin, now curating Schaubühne’s Festival International New Drama (FIND), the most relevant platform for contemporary international theater in Germany’s capital. Since 2007 he is curator of the International Program of Filmest Munich, with a special focus on films from Latin America.
